Laone Mining emerged from the unbundling of the Atlantis Group of Companies, where Laone Mining owners Thapelo Mothibinyane and Tshepiso Mothibinyane were empowerment partners.

Thapelo is a founding partner and a Managing Director of Laone Mining and Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). He has extensive experience in the Mining, Metals and Engineering, Petrochemical, power generation, FMCG and Raise Boring drilling space having served on the private, engineering consulting and parastatal enterprises with a caeer spanning over 14 years in the industry.
Thapelo has held various leadership and management positions in multibillion-rand enterprises with great stature (i.e. Anglo American, SAB Miller Limited, Sasol Eskom, Atlantis, etc.) where he occupied roles including Chief Mechanical Engineer, Chief Operating Officer, etc. Thapelo has also served as a Board Member in the capacity of an Executive Director in an international Raise Boring Drilling Company called Atlantis Group of Companies and was appointed Chief Operating Officer responsible for group operations, technical, finance, marketing and human resources divisions. He later served as the Acting CEO of the same company until August 2018 to focus his energies on Laone Mining and Engineering.

Tshepiso is a founding partner and an Executive Director of Laone Mining and Engineering. She is a Professional Natural Scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat.) with over 13 years of experience in Research & Development (R&D), petrochemical industries, Mining and Raise Boring drilling.
She has previously occupied leadership positions in areas of general management spanning R&D, Strategy, International Business Development, Business Intelligence as well as Policy & Regulatory environment. Tshepiso has worked for some of the big South African companies like Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Sasol (various business units within Sasol) and Atlantis Group of Companies where she occupied roles including Chief Strategy & Business Development Officer, Senior Policy Analyst, Senior Business Analyst, Specialist Scientist, etc. In 2017, she was appointed as a Director for Atlantis Group’s major local subsidiaries where she played an instrumental role to develop and execute a robust growth strategy for the Group. Tshepiso worked very closely with the Atlantis Board of Directors to influence and shape growth of Atlantis in her capacity as an Executive Director and Prescribed Officer. She served as a Chief Strategy & Business Development Officer for Atlantis until August 2018 prior to joining and focusing her energies on growth of Laone Mining and Engineering
